Nagaland: Mhathung Yanthan inaugurates horticulture office at Sanis

Wokha, Aug. 15 (EMN): Advisor of Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan, on Monday inaugurated the sub-division Horticulture office at Sanis under Wokha district. The inauguration programme was conducted after the celebration of the 75th Independence Day, where he was also the chief guest of the programme.

Yanthan, speaking during the inauguration programme, expressed joy and dedicated the new establishment to the people of Naga in general and particularly to the people of the range, stating that with the inauguration of the new office at Sanis, development and progress would be seen through it. He said that various development works were not done for those people who are lazy, and urged them to reactivate utilising and tapping the resources through the new establishment in the area.

He urged the department to let the people enjoy the fruits and to let the wishes and aspirations of the people be fulfilled through the department officials’ dedication. He said that the government aspires to build the backbone of the economy through various agricultural and farming programmes, yet less could be achieved due to the pandemic. He said that the government is striving to achieve the maximum development in tapping the available natural blessed resources, where he also lamented that Wokha district has been taken into an account as a land of plenty but till today the district has not yielded to its potential in availing and utilising the naturally blessed Agro-climatic conditions. He urged the farmers and the people of the district to dedicate and up-skill and learn various techniques in cultivation and to do away with the traditional practices and settle on permanent cultivation.

He said that the government has acknowledged the potential in various districts where 11 sub-divisional Horticulture offices are approved and some are yet to be inaugurated. He meanwhile informed the people to make use of the provided establishment to enhance their economy and lifestyle. Meanwhile he also informed the people to give extensive support and cooperation to the officers as they are posted to serve the people.

He meanwhile expressed that Sanis has the potential of becoming a good township, stating that Sanis is one of the major locations which is easily accessible and has good connectivity in all major areas in the district. He therefore called the people to come together and build the township. Meanwhile, he informed that various developmental programmes are in the pipeline to help the people to achieve and receive the best facilities like other district sub-division in the state.

Anenla T Sato, Commissioner and Secretary, Horticulture and Women Resource Development, during the inauguration of the office, encouraged the people to give due regard and importance to the new establishment and make use of it in building a sustainable economy.

During the programme, Dr. John Murry, Treasurer, NDPP Nagaland, Khonthungo Odyuo, head GB, Sanis Town, John Ezung , NDPP president Wokha region and various elders spoke on the occasion.

Rongsenmenla, SDO civil and in-charge Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sanis delivered the welcome address, while Hajang Cultural group presented a special number.

The programme was chaired by Dr. R Elithung Lotha, Director of Horticulture, dedication of the new sub-division horticulture office was said by Khodao Mozhui, pastor, Hajang Baptist Church and Aoimrong Aier,  District Horticulture Officer Wokha, pronounced the vote of thanks.
