Dimapur-Kohima railway project expected to be ready by March 2026
Dimapur, June 6 (EMN): The new railway line from Dimapur to Kohima, which will bring Nagaland capital city onto the broad gauge railway map of the country, is progressing at a fast pace and expected to be ready by March in 2026, according to the chief public relations officer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Sabyasachi De.
Highlighting the Centre’s efforts to connect all north-eastern state capital cities by broad gauge rail link, through an update, De said the NFR has taken up 82.50 km-long railway lines project from Dimapur to Kohima (Zubza) at an anticipated cost of INR 6,648 crore.
The project includes eight new stations, 22 major bridges, 165 minor bridges, 35 road over bridges/ road under bridges, and 31 km of tunnel work, informed the update.
Another 257 km-long new railway line project from Dimapur to Tizit has also been sanctioned at an anticipated cost of INR 4274 crore, for which survey on the stretch of 47.40 km between Furkating-Baghty Valley (24.10 km in Nagaland and 23.30 km in Assam) has been completed, it said, adding that the connectivity will make goods transportation easier and help boost Nagaland state economy.
It also highlighted infrastructure development works under taken at Dimapur railway station during 2014-22, like toilets and ramps for Divyangjan, AC waiting hall with modern amenities, airport type pay and use toilets, water vending machine and better infrastructural facilities on the platform and circulating area.
It went on to say that Bottle crusher machines have been provided at Dimapur station and 100% LED lights in all the stations as part of green initiative.
According to the update, Dimapur railway station has been provided with facilities like passenger reservation system, unreserved ticketing system, baggage screening system, coach indication display system, integrated passenger information system, digital museum and free high-speed Wi-Fi.
It went on to say that the station has also been selected for redevelopment, under which it will be redesigned with modern state-of-the-art facilities, modern passenger amenities and enhanced passenger interface.
