Dorians Society to organise inter-school spell bee contest

Dimapur, May 18(EMN): In commemoration of its silver jubilee celebration scheduled in December 2022, the Dorians Society will organise an inter-school spell bee competition on June 25 at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, the convenor of spell bee organising committee, Imti Longchar; general secretary of Dorians Society, Sentiningsang Longkumer; members of the spell Bee organising committee, Naro Pongen and Akhono, informed that the competition would be conducted for students of Grade 7 to 9. In this regard, the organisers have requested the schools to select two students for the competition.
The organisers also informed that students from Niuland and Chümoukedima districts could also participate in the competition as they are still functioning under Dimapur District Education Officer. Meanwhile, the organisers confirmed that they have received approval from the DEO for the competition.
The organisers updated that they have distributed study materials containing 500 words to the students to study. The organisers would charge INR 200 per student from private schools as registration fee, while it would be free for government schools.
The winners would receive INR 5000, INR 3000 and INR 2000 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively along with certificates. All the participants would also be given certificates.
On the day of the competition, schools are requested to send one coordinator or teacher along with the students. Students are also asked to come in school uniform along with their identity card.
The organisers mentioned that they have visited more than 30 schools till date and distributed forms. They have appealed to the concerned authorities to confirm their participation by May 31. Participants are asked to reach the venue by 9 am on June 25. It informed that the competition, which was initially scheduled on June 11 has to be postponed due to the NBSE midterm examination scheduled from June 8 to 18.
Longkumer shared that Dorians Society was formed in 1997 by some young enthusiasts, who were willing to see transformation within the society on the motto “Onhe hast onhe rast” which means “without haste without rest.”
