‘Nagaland has 12.67 lakh voters, out of which 6.29 lakh are women’

Dimapur, Jan. 25 (EMN): The chief electoral officer of Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar informed that the total number of voters in the state is 12.67 lakh, out of which 6.29 lakh are women.
He stated this in his message at the 12th National Voters Day (NVD) celebration in Kohima on Tuesday, which was celebrated on the theme “Making elections inclusive, accessible and participative”. The programme was also live-streamed at CEO Nagaland’s YouTube channel.
He said that the main purpose of NVD celebration is to encourage, facilitate and maximise enrolment, especially for the new voters, as well as to spread awareness among voters. He shared that the pandemic has affected all aspects of life including election-related works.
Informing that during the Special Summary revision (November, 2021) Nagaland received more than 50,000 applications, most of which are for registration of new voters, he said that many online applications came in with Kiphire and Mon district having the highest percentage 82% and 63% respectively.
He therefore encouraged every citizen to strengthen the electoral process and manifest the true spirit of democracy.
Ashe Kiba, Nagaland SVEEP person with disability icon also expressed her gratitude to the election commissioner of India for making election easy and accessible for all the voters without any discrimination.
During the programme, two new voters received their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC), while DC of Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie presented the welcome address and Miss Nagaland 2021, Kawimaningsiliu delivered a short speech.
Awards were also given to the winners of online poster with slogan writing competition (Kohima district), which was conducted on the theme “My vote is my right-The value of vote”, wherein Supolepdom Kichu, Class 12 student from Mezhur Higher Secondary School won the first prize, Keneino Thorie, Grade 11 A from Northfield School won the second, and Imsuakum from Fernwood School won the third prize.
Meanwhile, the awards for best booth-level officer (Kohima district) were presented to Dzuvilhoukho Medoze (8 Western Angami), Peuhaube (9 Kohima town), Kelhouneisa (10 Northern Angami-I), Khriezotoulie (11 Northern Angami-II), Enache Mesen (12 Tseminyu), Kelethuto Khazo (14 Southern Angami-I), Kikrocho Yongo (15 Southern Angami-II).
