National Sports Day 2021: Here is how the internet celebrated the occasion
Dimapur, August 29 (EMN): India celebrates National Sports Day on August 29 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Indian hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand.
Major Dhyan Chand is considered to be one of India’s greatest sportspersons who led India to three Olympic gold medals in the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Summer Olympics.
National Sports Day was first celebrated in India on August 29, 2012. On this day, major sporting awards such as the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the Arjuna Award, the Dhyan Chand Award and the Dronacharya Award are conferred to exceptional sporting legends for their achievements in sports.
On Sunday, India celebrated the occasion with tributes from celebrities, politicians and sports personalities across the country.
