Nagaland BJP senior mahilas bat for ‘one person one post’ policy
Dimapur, March 5 (EMN): The demand to replace incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland president Temjen Imna Along, who is also the minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, is getting louder as more than a dozen party senior mahilas have now sought change of leadership , stating that they strongly advocate ‘one person one post’ policy.
It came a few days after BJP Mokokchung district served show cause notice to six party members for seeking replacement of the party’s state president in a letter to BJP in-charge of Nagaland, Nahil S Kohli, claiming that he was not discharging his duties diligently due to multiple posts he holds.
A joint press release issued by 17 persons on behalf of Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha (BJMM) Nagaland state said that the incumbent state’s party chief “is faced with the taunting task of carrying forward the party’s work, organisational set up and functioning” as he is also a ‘cabinet minister holding three government departments’.
It stated that the defeat in the previous 60-Pungro-Kiphire assembly constituency by-election held in November last year had caused division amongst the party Karyakartars and that it feared worst outcome in the 2023 assembly elections if the present state of affairs continues.
“One main reason for the defeat of the party is that the incumbent president is not in a position to devote full time and dedication for the overall welfare and interest of the party as he has to manage three Government Departments simultaneously and also the fact that there was no clear instructions from the president to the party’s Karyakartars for proper co-ordination, identification of division and management of works and this was compounded by the lack of redressal to these pressing issues and this in turn has caused huge embarrassment to all the party members,” read the press release.
Lamenting that the central leaders have not taken any action till date despite sending many representations and memorandums to address the issue in the larger interest of the party, the BJMM Nagaland state warned that it would be ‘compelled to take extreme steps and measures’ if the problem is not solved.
