Dimapur, Feb. 4 (EMN): Security forces in Manipur claimed to have unearthed a huge cache of weapons and ammunition from Nangbrang region in Thoubal district on February 3.
A defence release stated that the items were recovered in an operation basing on intelligence inputs from Kamiching area of Thoubal district. It stated that it took two days to recovered the items in difficult terrains.
The recovered items included two 9mm Beretta pistols, one .32mm Chinese pistol, two .32mm country-made pistols, one 9 mm pistol, two SMG carbines and one .12 bore rifle. The troops also recovered two rifle grenades (made in China) and one Lathod round besides small arms ammunition of various types.
It further stated that the recovered weapons, ammunition and equipment were handed over to Andro police station for further investigation.
In a separate incident, security forces recovered huge cache of explosives items being smuggled in a car near Mallidor village between Assam-Meghalaya border
It stated that the troops have recovered 542 gelatine explosives, 600 electronic detonators and a cash of INR 11260 on NH 37 near Gumrah toll gate in a village of Mallidor located between Assam-Meghalaya border.
It also stated that two persons were apprehended in this connection. They were handed over to Gumrah police station for further investigations, it added.
