Don Bosco Kohima to celebrate year-long golden jubilee

Kohima, Jan. 27 (EMN): Don Bosco, Kohima, which was established in 1971, has announced to celebrate a year-long golden jubilee beginning from January 31 on the theme “Towards a better world with Don Bosco”.
This was informed during a press briefing on Wednesday by the chairman of the organising committee, KD Vizo, in the presence of its general secretary, Vitsu Peter Yhome, rector and principal of Don Bosco College Kohima, Fr. P Suresh, and principal of Don Bosco, Kohima, Fr. TP James.
Vizo informed that the year-long jubilee celebration would be marked with different programmes every month. The activities would include competitions on music, art, literary programmes and festivals.
He asserted that Don Bosco, being one of the first which understood the problems of the youth, founded a Catholic society called Salesian which has now gone to 134 countries in the world. He informed that Don Bosco Kohima is one of the first institutions in the state of Nagaland next to Don Bosco, Wokha, and added that the jubilee celebration would promote what Don Bosco had taught.
“Jubilee is a year where we forgive each other, and ask for God’s mercy, God’s favours and show kindness,” said the chairman.
Meanwhile, the principal of Don Bosco, Kohima, Fr. TP James stated that they have invited the past pupils of the school. He added that an invitation has been dispatched to all the alumni of the school.
It mentioned that the school had produced the first batch of students who had appeared HSLC examination in 1975 adding till date it has produced 3588 students.
With the introduction of Science stream in 1997, he stated that the college has registered a total of 1141 passed students till 2020.
The college has started Under-Graduate for Arts in 2015. It also planned to introduce a Commerce stream in 2021. Currently, Don Bosco has an enrollment of about 2200 students from nursery till Under-Graduate course.
The committee further informed that the year-long celebration would culminate tentatively in the second week of November in 2021.
Highlight of the launch programme
The launching programme would be graced by Advisor of IT and C, Science and Technology, New and Renewable Energy Resources, Mmhonlumo Kikon, at 4 pm.
Brief history of Don Bosco would be presented by the vice principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS), Fr. Innocent Panmei (sdb), while reminiscent of the past would be delivered by the 1st batch student Dr. Zavei Hiese and Fr. Kuriakose. Greetings would be shared by Fr. P Suresh and Fr. TP James. The event would also mark the launch of jubilee commemoration music/ video album and release of Jubilee Sky Lantern.
