Manipur Technical University gets cyber ‘Centre of Excellence’

Imphal, Nov. 25 (EMN): Manipur Technical University (MTU) has now its first Centre of Excellence (CoE).

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the university and the Cyber Peace Foundation (CPF) was signed on November 23 in the office of the vice chancellor of MTU at Takyel in the outskirts of Imphal.

Registrar Ng Bhogendra Meitei of the MTU informed that the university’s core administration team and the department of Computer Science and Engineering took joint initiatives in setting up the MTU Cyber CoE.

The MTU Cyber CoE will work, share and collaborate with the other cyber CoEs in India.

The university and CPF along with the academia, industry, government and civil society organisations will work together to nurture and support ideas and solutions besides developing innovations in cyber space through research.

The collaboration between the MTU and the CPF will open windows of opportunities for the students of the university besides accelerating research and development activities. The students will receive state-of-art training and internships related to cyber security and get chance at receiving placements in the industries related to cyber security and cyber crime, according to the students’ interests.

The MTU Cyber CoE intends to open a forensic laboratory in its campus in the near future which will serve as a backbone to solving cyber crime related investigations at minimal timeframes thus benefitting law enforcers of the state.

The centre will also provide specific training programmes for the state’s police force related to new technologies and tools in tackling cyber crime.

The laboratory will start research in the areas of detecting misinformation besides fake news.

The MoU was signed by Vice Chancellor Dr. L Tombi Singh and President Capt Vineet Kumar of the CPF in the presence of MTU Registrar Bhogendra Meitei, head of department (Computer Science & Engineering) Chiranjiv Chingangbam, and CPF Advisor Pavithran Rajan.
