Manipur govt. introduces mortuary vans for poor tribals

Imphal, March 5 (EMN): To facilitate poor tribals in Manipur, the state government on Tuesday introduced two mortuary vans for transportation of dead bodies from hospital in Imphal area to their respective home in the hills.

Manipur Tribal Affairs & Hills Minister N Kayisii launched the two mortuary vans at the office premises of Directorate of TA & Hills in Imphal.

Speaking on the occasion, Kayisii said that the two vehicles were added to the existing service due to high public demand of the service and to replace the old vehicles which are not serviceable, he added.

Under Mobile Dispensary cum Mortuary Van Project which has been operational since 2004, a gypsy Ambulance and a Mortuary Van-TATA 407 have been using for transporting dead bodies, an official said.

As per the rules and guidelines of the TA & Hills department for availing the scheme, only tribals of Manipur can avail the facility. The fuel charges as well as food and lodging for the driver has to be borned by the family concerned as and when required. A guarantor is also required to sign an undertaking for the safe return of the vehicle.

Eligible beneficiaries can avail the facility by contacting Deputy Director L Rajendro Singh of TA & Hills.
