82 fresh Covid cases in state

Dimapur, Jan. 16 (EMN): Nagaland recorded a single-day rise of 82 fresh Covid-19 positive cases on Sunday, taking the state’s tally to 32, 916 and active caseload to 457.

The state’s cumulative recoveries also increased to 30,507 with the recovery of 12 more patients in the last 24 hours.

The death toll remained unchanged at 687 with no Covid deaths reported on Sunday.

According to an update from the department of Health and Family Welfare, 72 positive cases were reported from Dimapur, and 10 from Kohima.

 Out 457 active cases in the state, 421 are asymptomatic, 35 mild and one moderate on oxygen.

In terms of distribution of active cases, Dimapur has 381 infections, 54 in Kohima, 16 in Tuensang, five each in Mokokchung and Peren and two in Phek; while Wokha, Kiphire, Mon, Zunheboto and Longleng are currently Covid-free.

India reports 2,71, 202 new cases

India added 2,71,202 new coronavirus infections on Sunday, taking the total tally of Covid-19 cases to 3,71,22,164, including 7,743 cases of the Omicron variant, according to Union Health Ministry data.

The country saw 1,702 new cases of Omicron variant, the highest in a single day so far, and an increase of 28.17 per cent since Saturday.

The active cases have increased to 15,50,377, the highest in 225 days, while the death toll has climbed to 4,86,066 with 314 fresh fatalities, the data stated.

Meanwhile, 1,38,331 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients is now at 3,50,85,721.
