7 injured in explosion at coalmine in Nagaland’s Mon district

In an unfortunate incident, at least seven miners were said to be seriously injured following an explosion in a coalmine at Naginimora in Mon district, on Wednesday.

Sources said that the injured persons had been admitted to Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh, Assam for treatment.

The Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Thavaseelan K, told Eastern Mirror that no deaths were reported. The district administration was also informed that no one was brought dead to the health facility when it called up the hospital.

He said that the fire was suspected to be started by a gas leakage.

The DC went on to inform that all the injured persons, who sustained burn injuries, were from Assam state.

A police officer in Mon district also told this newspaper that they had sent a police team to the explosion site but they had not received any reports about fatalities caused by to the explosion, till the time of filing this report.

The officer added that the police team is still investigating and trying to ascertain the incident.

As per reports, dozens of miners were at work when a fire started due to a gas leakage about 300 feet beneath the ground.
