DIMAPUR — The 6th Altrura Open Football Tournament 2024 kicked off in Chümoukedima on Monday with Lhousito Khro, chairman of Chümoukedima Town Council as the special guest.
In his speech, Khro acknowledged the Altrura Society as a well-known and respected organisation and lauded the society for its dedication and service. He expressed hope that the society would continue to play a significant role in the community’s development, an update stated.
Addressing the players, he emphasised that the tournament is not just a platform to showcase individual talent but also an opportunity to learn the importance of teamwork.
He encouraged the players to utilise the event to enhance their personal skills, while also understanding that success in football requires collective effort. He went on to state that the experience gained from this tournament could open doors for participants to advance to the state, national, and even international levels.
Khro further stressed the importance of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork in sports.
The keynote address was delivered by Megosielie Kruse, president of Altrura Society, who spoke on the society’s commitment to promote sports and community development. A special performance by Asenuo Metha, also known as the ‘Momo Girl,’ added a unique touch to the ceremony.
The opening ceremony concluded with an oath-taking led by Shurhotsilie Theunuo, assistant secretary games and sports, Altrura Society.
Altogether, 24 teams from across the region are vying for the coveted championship title. “The tournament is expected to provide a platform for young talent to shine and gain exposure on larger stages,” it stated.
