Out of the 94 arrested people, 57 were reported to belong to various factions while 37 were others.

Tetseo said that the overall law and order situation in Dimapur for the last four month has been fairly peaceful while acknowledging that there have been cases of reported and unreported incidents of extortion/illegal taxation in the district.

Tetseo added that most of the cases related to extortions/illegal taxations were registered through suo-moto since people were not coming forward to register the cases. He urged the citizens not to hesitate in reaching out the police since their identity would be kept confidential.

The commissioner of police updated that a total of 1474 cases were registered in Nagaland in 2020 out of which 857 cases were registered in Dimapur

A total of 941 cases were registered in Nagaland in 2021 (as on August 31, 2021) out of which 529 cases were registered in Dimapur (56.21%).

Tetseo said that they had received many complaints and constructive suggestions regarding the traffic enforcement. He informed that a total of 19,856 challans were issued related to traffic offence and violation in Dimapur as on September 25, 2021 which was ‘very concerning’ and appealed to the citizens to observe traffic rules and carry all necessary documents.

He informed that for the last one week, Dimapur Police was carrying out intensive night enforcement especially for the two-wheeler riders as there were too many accidents adding that every alternate day, one accident or casualty occurs.

He added that the intensive night enforcement had been successful in avoiding major accidents.

In order to contain rampant reported and unreported cases of extortion and illegal tax collection, Tetseo informed that they had formulated and implemented district enforcement plan/ police action plan and had deployed three more companies, out of which two were IRB battalion and one Special Task Force (STF), in addition to the existing four companies.

Tetseo said that increased security measures might be inconvenient for the public in general, but people should co-operate with the police. He added that the police had provided security for trucks carrying essentials and urged the transporters to co-operate as sometimes the trucks carrying essential goods were not willing to follow the timing of the escort.

Moreover, maximum cases of extortions take place at the check gates, he said and appealed to all the transporters to avail the facilities so that illegal taxation and extortion can be minimised.
