Kohima, Feb. 23 (EMN):
The department of Health and Family Welfare, in its annual administrative report for 2019-2020, informed that 59 children (14 years and below) tested HIV positive (April 2019- December 2019) in Nagaland.

It also updated that there are 549 children under Antiretroviral Therapy (ART).

The National Aids Control Organisation also released an official estimation in 2017 stating that adult HIV prevalence rate is 1.15% and general population prevalence rate is 0.82 %, where 91% of the cases are reportedly transmitted through sexual route.

Director of Kripa Nagaland, Abou Mere had also stated earlier that though the data suggests sexual route as the main mode of transmission, no scientific study has been conducted to determine which group of population is ‘driving the epidemic’.
