5,873 houses constructed in Nagaland under PMAY-G

Dimapur — Nagaland has completed construction of 5,873 houses out of a total of 22,987 that was sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) as on March 24, 2023.

This was informed by the union minister of State for Rural Development, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on March 29.

The Ministry of Rural Development is executing the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme since April 1, 2016, to accomplish the goal of ‘Housing for all’ in rural regions. The programme aims at providing support for constructing 2.95 crore pucca houses with basic amenities.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent nationwide lockdown had a severe impact on all construction activities, including the construction of houses under PMAY-G. As a result, on the requests made by the states/ union territories, the deadline for completing the PMAY-G programme has been extended from March 2022 to March 2024, the minister said.

The ministry has set a target of constructing 2.94 crore houses in the states/ union territories under PMAY-G, against the mandated target of constructing 2.95 crore houses. As of March 24, 2023, the states/ UTs have sanctioned 2.85 crore houses to the eligible beneficiaries, out of which 2.22 crore houses have already been completed. 

In terms of completion of houses under PMAY-G programme in the Northeast region, Assam has constructed the most significant number of houses. Out of 18,29,972 houses sanctioned by the state under the scheme, 10,96,571 houses have been built. Tripura stands in second place with 2, 11, 956 houses constructed out of 2, 56, 175 houses sanctioned by the state under the scheme.

Manipur has completed 20,020 houses out of 43,308 houses sanctioned, placing it in the third position among Northeast states in terms of completion under the PMAY-G program, Meghalaya has completed 35,171 houses out of 70,113 houses sanctioned by the state, while Mizoram has constructed 6,524 houses out of 20,512 houses sanctioned under the scheme. Nagaland has completed 5,873 houses out of 22,987 houses sanctioned by the state government under the scheme. Sikkim, on the other hand, has completed 1,102 houses out of 1,409 houses sanctioned under the scheme.

As of March 24, 2023, Bihar has completed the highest number of houses under the PMAY-G scheme, with a total of 35,18,034 houses constructed, followed by West Bengal with 33,99,627 completed houses, while Uttar Pradesh has built 26,06,934 houses under the scheme, ranking third in terms of completion in the country.
