4 cases registered in Nagaland under the Prevention of Corruption Act

A total of four cases were registered in Nagaland under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (PC Act) by the Anti‐Corruption Bureau, Vigilance and Lokayukta in 2020.

Meanwhile, the state registered 16 cases in 2018 and only one in 2019, while a total of 11 people were arrested, four charge sheets filed in court and one acquitted, according to the National Crime Records Bureau report.

Arunachal Pradesh reported the highest number of cases registered by the state anti-corruption bureaus (ACBs) in the Northeast with 21 cases, while 31 persons were arrested in relation to the cases, the report stated.

It was followed by Assam with 16 cases, 19 persons arrested, two persons convicted and departmental action taken against two persons.

Nine cases were registered in Manipur in connection with criminal misconduct and eight cases in Meghalaya, while no such cases were reported in Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura.

A total of 3,100 cases were registered by state anti-corruption bureau (ACBs) in India in 2020 compared to 4,244 cases in 2019, showing a decrease of 27%. Out of 3,100 cases, the majority, i.e., 65% were trap cases (2,014), followed by 14.7% of criminal misconduct (457 Cases). A total of 3,740 persons were arrested, 431 persons convicted and departmental action taken against 312 persons.

Meanwhile,  Maharashtra reported the highest number of cases registered by the ACBs with 664 cases registered in 2020, while a total of 963 persons were arrested, followed by Rajasthan with 363 cases with 437 persons arrested and Tamil Nadu with 304 cases.
