Kohima, Feb. 9 (EMN): As much as 39,684 beneficiaries from Nagaland have availed government scholarship during 2018-19, according to the minister of Higher and Technical Education, Temjen Imna Along.
Along presented the list of scholarship beneficiaries and amount disbursed to students during 2018-19, in response to a starred question raised by MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu during the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly. The MLA sought response from the minister on the status of scholarship disbursed during 2018-19 and list of beneficiaries availing within and outside Nagaland.
The scholarship had four categories—post matriculation scholarship (Scheduled Tribes), state research scholarship, state merit scholarship, and North Eastern Council (NEC) scholarship.
Overall total amounting to INR 42,71,00,622 was released to nearly 40 thousand students in 2018-19, it stated.
For post matriculation scholarship, total amount of INR 4,06,23,200 was paid to 38,380 students. In the state merit scholarship category, 1156 beneficiaries received a total amount of INR 1,73,34,120.
Under the state research scholarship, total amount of INR 21,98,502 was disbursed to 89 beneficiaries. The break out of the 89 research scholars as per the state or region wise included 32 from Nagaland; Northeast (19); Karnataka (15); West Bengal (nine); Tamil Nadu (eight); Uttar Pradesh (three); and one each from Telangana, New Delhi, and Maharashtra.
Fifty-nine students benefitted from INR 13,36,000 under NEC scholarship. It may be mentioned that 39 out of 59 beneficiaries are studying outside Nagaland.
