Mokokchung, Oct. 30 (EMN): The State Vigilance Commission (SVC) is currently conducting 73 investigations—41 preliminary enquiries and 32 regular cases— involving various departments of the government of Nagaland. In all, there are 24 government departments under the Vigilance’s microscope.

During investigation, if the information discloses prima facie commission of a cognisable offence, a regular case is registered. However, if the information prima facie discloses commission of irregularities, which call for further enquiry, a preliminary enquiry is first registered.

The 73 cases include “carried over cases.” In the period between Nov. 1, 2017 to Oct. 29, 2018, the commission has also recovered a whopping INR 2,38,63,018. A copy containing those details, among others, were made available to the press by the commission during the observance of Vigilance Awareness Week, 2018 held at Mokokchung town on Oct. 29.

In the list of government departments under investigation, Health and Family Welfare tops the table with 14 cases, followed by Roads and Bridges with 10 cases, and School Education with seven cases.

In a case that is still under investigation, concerning misappropriation of fund meant for Inclusive Education of the Disabled at Secondary Stage scheme by the School Education department, the commission has recovered INR 40,77,650.

The number of cases under trial/ court tribunal was 10, according to the data. In the same period, 40 cases were either solved or disposed off; 52 persons served with administrative warnings and two persons terminated from service.

There were two instances where ‘incomplete works/abandoned projects’ were completed after investigation by the commission.
