Wokha, July 5 (EMN): Two boys were drowned at Doyang River near Permanent Colony at around 2.40 pm on Friday. They have been identified as Limhathung Ezung and Renben Ngullie,
They were reportedly swept away by the strong currents while taking a swim during a ‘site-seeing’ trip. The district’s disaster management agency said that its search and rescue team had combed the area till 9.25 pm. The team will continue the search operation on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of Wokha has advised people against venturing into Doyang. In a press release issued on Friday, he informed that water levels at Doyang Hydro Electric Project (DHEP) reservoir and Doyang River have risen considerably due to heavy rains. .
“Therefore, all are advised against venturing into the river for any activity, like swimming/fishing/washing clothes etc., as it may endanger lives,” it stated.
