121 arms, 3270 ammo seized in Nagaland last year
Dimapur, Nov. 7 (EMN): A total of 121 arms and 3270 ammunition were seized under Arms Act during 2020 in Nagaland, according to the data released by the National Crime record Bureau (NCRB).
It comprised four arms as licensed/factory-made and 117 arms as unlicensed/improvised/crude/country-made.
According to the NCRB report, Assam reported the highest seizures of arms and ammunition among the northeast states, with a total of 365 arms and 3451 ammunition while Sikkim recorded the lowest with three arms and one ammunition.
In Manipur, 99 arms and 4902 numbers of ammunition were seized, while in Meghalaya 27 arms and 331 ammunition were seized under the Act.
10 arms and one ammunition were seized in Mizoram and 11 arms and 13 ammunition were seized in Tripura, according to the NCRB report.
Moreover, Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of arms seizures with 37616, while Jammu and Kashmir reported the highest number of ammunition seizures with 27103 followed by Uttar Pradesh with 12908.
Madhya Pradesh reported the second-highest seizures of arms with 11388 arms, followed by Rajasthan with 5453 and Bihar with 3742 arms seized under the Arms Act during 2020.
Meanwhile, the five union territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Ladakh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry reported zero seizures of arms and ammunition in 2020.
Among the union territories, Delhi reported the highest number of arms seizures with 3736 arms, followed by Jammu and Kashmir with 484 and Chandigarh with 35 arms.
As compared to 73,713 cases under Arms Act during 2019, lesser cases were registered in 2020 with 68,463 cases under the Arms Act. A total of 74,581 arms, comprising 1,412 arms as licensed/factory-made and 73,169 arms as Unlicensed/ improvised/crude/country-made were seized in 2020. 95,265 ammunition were also seized during 2020, it added.
