111 Bn BSF also known as the Great Naga Battalion was raised on 16th Sept 1973 out of the Ex- Revolutionary Govt of Nagaland (RGN) cadres. Their contribution towards bringing normalcy in the insurgency affected state of Nagaland is immense and beyond description says a press release from the battallion.
The release states that since inception of the battalion, most of the Ex RGN Cadres have retired and living a settled and peaceful life. Every possible welfare measures have been extended. However, a platform to utilise their service as peace messengers in the Civil Society and to know their needs was felt says Y M Upadhyay Commandant 111 Bn BSF.
Subsequently on August 26 at the Bn HQ, Satakha under Upadhyay’s chairmanship a meeting to discuss various points related to the welfare of Ex- BSF personnel, their hardships and other problems were discussed threadbare.
Commandant 111 Bn BSF after a patient hearing assured them to extend all possible help on priority basis and further assured that matters will also be taken up with higher Headquarters wherever required.
A total of 97 Ex-BSF Officers, SOs and other ranks including widows attended the meeting. The release states the invitees were greatly touched by the gesture on the part of the unit to organise such a platform to know and enquire about their well being and promised to extend their full support to BSF.
