Zeliangrong organisations mourn death of DP Panmei
Dimapur, Jan. 28 (EMN): The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (AZSU AMN) and Zeliangrong Baudi, Assam (ZBA) mourn the untimely death of former Manipur minister Digakthui Phianrongdiyang Panmei, popularly known as DP Panmei, who died on Jan. 27 at Imphal.
Describing him as one of the tallest visionary Zeliangrong leaders, who served the Zeliangrong community and Nagas in various capacities, the two organisations said in a joint statement that “his association and contribution in social, education and political career is enormous, where he had exhibited and rendered his best abilities.”
The joint statement said that Panmei was the founding member of All Zeliangrong Students’ Union Assam Manipur and Nagaland (AZSU AMN) and served as its president from 1973 75. “Late DP Panmei was a dynamic man with determination, zeal courage and integrity. The younger generation shall always cherish and remember the legacy left behind,” it said.
“In his untimely demise, we have lost a great and visionary leader of our time and the vacuum created shall be difficult to fill. The union convey its heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and relatives and pray for the departed soul to rest in peace,” it added.
DP Panmei hailed from Azuram village under Tousem sub-division in Manipur’s Tamenglong district. He is survived by his wife, two sons, three daughters and three grandchildren.
