World Population Day observed in Manipur

Imphal, July 11(EMN): Along with the rest of the world, World Population Day was observed in Manipur by holding public rally and public meeting on Tuesday. The rally was flagged off by the Director of Health Services K Lokendro Singh.
Later public function was organised in connection with the state level observation at the Manipur State Film Development Society Auditorium (MSFDSA) with the state Health and Family Welfare Minister Langpoklakpam Jayantakumar Singh as the chief guest, Directors of State Health Services, Dr K. Rajo Singh State Family Welfare Services and Additional Director Health Services Dr H Ranjit Singh as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Jayentakumar said collective responsibility is necessary to check fast population growth in the country. Stating that developing countries like India needs population control, he said population growth gives more negative impact and informed that the poor people suffered more in the countries where there is fast growth of population.
Informing that making the society strong and healthy will a help to check population growth, he added the concept of ‘might is right’ has become obsolete which cannot be implicated at the present days. In his speech K Lokendro Singh said mere observation of World Population Day will not fulfil its aim and objectives. Education and awareness to the masses regarding the menace of population growth will help check population growth, he added.
The day was also observed in Senapati at DRDA hall. Addressing the occasion ADC Chairman, Senapati ML Markson said ‘he is committed to the population control through family planning and birth control’. Delivering her keynote address, District Immunisation Officer, Dr. Sokha said ‘India is expected to be World’s most populous Country by 2022’. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Senapati Dr Loli said ‘family planning is not only birth control however it is a planning regarding marriage, children and grandchildren.
