Imphal, March 1 (EMN): The Tousem Area Students' Organisation (TASO) of Tamenglong district urged Chief Minister Nongthombaqm Biren Singh to provide La-Bike facilities in the Tousem areas.
Tousem is one of the remotest hill stations under Tamenglong district bordering Assam’s Haflong district.
On February 27, a mobile laboratory system fitted on motorcycles which is known as La-Bike was formally launched in Imphal to provide diagnostic facilities at the doorsteps.
TASO President Nehemiah Daime in a statement said that La-Bike services would be available in the 85 Primary Health Centres (PHC) throughout the state. However, he lamented that the government denied the facilities to Tousem sub-division.
Tousem is considered to be the most neglected sub-division in the state. It has experienced many ugly incidences and many lives were lost due to lack of such medical facilities.
“We urge the government to look into this matter seriously and reconsider it at the earliest,” the president said.
It may be mentioned that out of 85 PHCs, 20 La-Bike was provided to 20 PHCs located at hill and valley districts for the first phase.
The chief minister during the launching of the service at the Main Auditorium of JNIMS in Imphal announced that such laboratory service would also be made available in the remaining 65 PHCs soon.
Biren had said that the portable equipment would be facilitating its laboratory services at the doorsteps of the people living in the remote and hilly areas of the State.
