Manipur minister congratulates Saikhom Mirabai for winning gold

Imphal, July 10 (EMN): Manipur youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip on Wednesday congratulated former world champion Saikhom Mirabai for winning a gold medal by lifting a world record 191 kg in 2019 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship at Apia, Samoa.
“I convey my heartiest congratulations for winning gold medal to Saikhom Mirabai in the senior women 49 kg category by lifting a world record of 191kg (on Tuesday),”said Minister Letpao. “I also congratulate Sorolhaibam Bindyarani Devi in the 55th category and Ch Rishikanta in the senior men 55kg, category who won gold medals in their respective category.”
The Indian contingent won 13 medals that included eight gold, three silver and two bronze medals in senior, junior and youth categories.
Stating that all of them have brought laurels for one country India and Manipur in particular in the 2019 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, he said, “I wish each of them and all other participants from Manipur good health and prosperity in all their future endeavours.”
On Tuesday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh congratulated Maisnam Meiraba Luwang on clinching the title of U-19 singles competition at the White Night Russian Junior International Tournament at St Petersburg, Russia (on Sunday).
With this grand achievement, Meiraba Luwang has once again proved that Manipur, though a small state, has huge potential in sports and is indeed the sports capital of India, said in a congratulatory message by N Biren.
Stating that Manipur is proud of his accomplishment, Biren extended his best wishes to Meiraba Luwang for the forthcoming Asian Junior Championship, which will be held in Suzhou, China from July 20 to 28 .I am hopeful that the young and dynamic badminton player would bring more laurels to the state, he added.
