IMPHAL, June 22: Under the programme of Small Wind Energy and Hybrid System (SWES), Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, 14 numbers of wind-solar hybrid system with a capacity of 10 kWp each for electrification at 14 villages has been be implemented in the State. Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) made the selection of the villages after conducting wind resource assessment to the hilly sites where wind energy could be tapped for power generation, according to an official release.
The details of location of the selected villages are Chawangkining 10kW, Kotlane 10kW, Dolangkhunou 10kW, Tingkai 10kW, Sankumai 10kW; Regional Potato Farm in Mao under Senapati district; Chorjeng Lunghar 10kW, Hongbei 10 kW, Phungyar 10kW, Phungyar HQ 10kW in Ukhrul district; Lamdan 10kW in Churachandpur district; Lamdangmei 10kW in Tamenglong district; Tengnoupal 10kWand Tengnoupal HQ 10kW in Chandel district.
MANIREDA is the State Nodal Agency of the Ministry of MNRE, Government of India. Upto 25 MW capacity, State Nodal Agency can take up Small Hydro Power (SHP).
In order to promote SHP development in India, under the Small Hydro incentives schemes of MNRE, the Ministry would provide financial assistance for identification of new potential SHP sites and preparation of plan and preparation of Detail Project Report @ Rs. 2 lakhs for each project upto 1.00 MW capacity and Rs 5 lakhs for each project with more than 1.00 MW & amp; upto 25 MW capacity to the State Government departments/ agencies, DIPR release added.Despite being endowed with rich Hydro power potential, Manipur has been facing power crisis for a long time. For solving the need of power, the rich hydel resources are required to be tapped in a systematic way. Small/ Mini/ Micro Hydro is attractive because it is a renewable energy sources that can never be exhausted which also avoids the pollution associated with burning fuels.
Small/ Mini/ Micro hydro power is generally run by river and therefore avoids construction of large dams/reservoirs.
Solar Thermal energy is also another area that MADIREDA is taking up for solving power crisis in Manipur. It can be utilised to heat water for domestic use. By installing a Solar Water Heater of 100LPD capacity (2sq.m collector area), it could save around five units of power/ energy per day totalling 1500 units per year equivalent to electric geyser of 2kW capacity in a home.
Under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM), Government of India, MANIREDA has implemented 6680 sq. m. collector area equivalent to 3340 nos. of 100 LPD Flat Plate Collector Type of Solar Water Heaters in Manipur which were completely commissioned on 26/06/2013, it added.
Under the programme of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM), Ministry of New and Renewable Energy(MNRE), Government of India, MANIREDA is implementing 1400 W-LED based Solar Street Lighting system at 9 (nine) District Head Quarters of Manipur with a total capacity of 280 kW. The system comprises 200 Wp SPV modules, 150 AH Tubular Gel Type VRLA battery, 45W luminary with a pole height of 7m from ground level.
Altogether 541nos of Solar Street light has been installed at Imphal East (campus of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat and Imphal West District (Manipur High Court Complex, Mantripukhri), Thoubal District Headquarter Highway, Moirang Sendra Road etc. Foundation work is underway at Churachandpur and Senapati District Headquarters.
