Imphal, March 2 (EMN): Manipur Horticulture department has started exporting dried king chilly for sell in United States and Australia besides selling organic products certified by the Manipur Organic Mission Agency, said Horticulture Minister Th Shyamkumar Singh on Friday, March 1.
Participating in the state assembly’s demand discussion, Singh said the department has been visiting different areas of both the hills and the valley in the state to identify locally grown indigenous fruits and has started to provide markets for locally produced ginger, pineapple, turmeric and others.
The Minister Shyamkumar informed the House that rural markets and cold storage were constructed under the Integrated Development of Horticulture MIDH.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh told the House that under Double the Farmers’ Income, the Chief Minister Focus Area programme has commenced in Imphal east and west, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts, jointly by Command Area Development Authority, Minor Irrigation and Horticulture departments.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Letpao Haokip said that 325.90 acres of land at Koutruk and Senjam Khunou have been identified for the construction of the National Sports University. He also informed the House that classes have already started at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India has outsourced the tender process for the construction of the university to a private company and the tender is open to all, he said.
He also informed about the Sports Policy which has already included in the covers of different programs including financial assistance to recognized sports associations, jobs for meritorious sportsperson in government departments, incentives for medal winners at international stages including the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and others.
Further, the minister told the House that the government is planning to construct sports complex in the newly created districts.
