KOHIMA, JUL 30: Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE) Dr. Ngangshi K. Ao today stated that the Department is aiming to increase its revenue
by 75% during this current financial year.
Interacting with media persons on the sidelines of the farewell programme held for outgoing Chief Engineer Er K Khetovi Sumi at State Academy Hall here today, Dr. Ngangshi revealed that the department has made a plan to increase the revenue by 75% i.e. from the present income of Rs. 1 crore to Rs 1.75 crore by the end of this fiscal.
On being asked about the issue of Water Supply Metering System in the State, the minister informed that presently Zunheboto, Mokokchung and Wokha have been completed under the programme while some areas of Kohima and Dimapur have also been covered. He asserted that the rest of the districts would be taken up soon.
With regard to increase of tax on pipe water supplied by the department from Rs 15 to 50, he admitted that the jump seems to be a little too steep while stating that the Department is considering some adjustments on the matter.
Asked about the delay in repair works of damaged pipe lines, he said the main reason is fund constraint. However, he maintained that things would be changing soon and such delays would not continue.
According to the new Chief Engineer Er Mhondamo Ovung, damage of pipelines is the cause of non-supply of drinking water for the last three months in most of the areas in Kohima. These will be repaired by next week and water supply normalised, he assured.
