Harry Potter’s money-making magic has made it’s star Daniel Radcliffe richer than the young British royals Prince William and Prince Harry.
Radcliffe, 20, who stars as the wizard Harry Potter in the film adaptations of the bestseller by JK Rowling, was ranked the fifth wealthiest young Briton after clocking up a fortune of USD 64 million.
It put him ahead of Prince William and Prince Harry, who came seventh with individual fortunes of USD 42 million in the category for those aged 30 and under. The Harry Potter franchise has generated a collective fortune of more than USD 920 million for its author and stars.
Rowling has amassed a personal wealth of USD 800 million from her wizard stories, making her the world’s wealthiest author according to the Sunday Times Rich List. Radcliffe’s 20-year-old co- star Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger, took the tenth place with a fortune of USD 40 million.
Rupert Grint, 21, who appeared as Ronald Weasley in the films, was ranked 12th with USD 30 million. And Robert Pattinson, 23, who made his name playing lovelorn vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise, was listed at 14th with USD 20 million.
All the Harry Potter stars beat musicians Leona Lewis, Charlotte Church and Cheryl Cole who were ranked joint 16th and 20th respectively in the young Britons list. The main rich list also revealed how the fortunes of the UK’s superrich staged a remarkable recovery in the last 12 months even as Britain struggled through a shaky economic recovery.
