Imphal, April 3 (EMN): The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the custodial killing of Md Manjur Ahmad has called off the proposed 48 hour state-wide total shutdown which was scheduled to begin from 6am of April 3 following an understanding with the state government, sources from the JAC said.
The understanding between the striking JAC and the government led by the state chief minister led team was reached late on Tuesday night, the source added.
The JAC against the custodial killing of Md Manjur Ahmad had been demanding handing over the ‘custodial case’ to CBl and booking of the involved personnel.
A key functionary of the JAC against the custodial killing of Md Manjur Ahmad when contacted on phone said the shutdown has been called off as per the understanding.
Manipur police constable, Md Manjur Ahmad (34) who had earlier been suspended in connection with escape of Th Nando, a leader of proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (Nando group) from JNIMS hospital in Imphal East district on March 26, reportedly died in the police custody on March 30. Majur is a resident of Yairipok Ningthounai of Imphal East district and posted at the reserve line of the Imphal East district police.
